I don’t know about you but I absolutely LOVE nutella, I could happily sit with the jar and eat it with a teaspoon, no bread or crackers needed. However, with having such a restricted diet, nutella is definitely off the list with its dairy and sugar content and so I went in search of an alternative. After all, it can’t be that difficult, can it?
I came across this fab recipe by Deliciously Ella so decided to try it out. It sure was tasty but I wasn’t convinced it just wasn’t quite the nutella I remember eating!
It’s fantastically simple:
Makes 1 jar
– 1 cup of hazelnuts
– 1 cup of medjool dates (the squishier the better!)
– 1/2 a cup of water
– 2 tablespoons of pure organic maple syrup
– 1-2 heaped tablespoons of cacao powder (depending on how rich you like it)
Place all the ingredients in a food processor and blend for 5-10 mins.
Instead of soaking the hazelnuts, I roasted them this time and removed the crisp shells, this meant that when blended it turned into more of a nut butter than a bitty chocolate spread, it also brought out the taste of the hazelnuts. I also added in a little extra coco as I’m a complete chocolate lover.
So there you have it scrummy ‘nutella’ that won’t make you sick!
